Common Real Property Errors and Conflict Resolution with the IRS

Instructor: Michael Gregory, ASA, CVA, NSA

In this session, Michael Gregory sheds light on the most common errors in real property appraisals from the perspective of the IRS, and he presents how to overcome conflict when the IRS appraisers raise issues.  The lessons learned based on neuroscience will help you resolve conflict and negotiate winning solutions not only with real property issues and conflicts with the IRS, but with other issues providing applications at work and other venues.


  1. Understand the IRS and how it works related to valuation issues
  2. Understand who the players are locally 
  3. Know the most common errors the IRS sees on real property appraisals
  4. Know how to be proactive to avoid errors
  5. Understand brain science to help with resolving conflicts on appraisals

Michael GregoryInstructor Bio: It is our pleasure to introduce Michael Gregory, ASA, CVA, NSA, and Mediator Minnesota Supreme Court, who founded Michael Gregory Consulting LLC in September 2011.  Prior to founding his consulting firm, Mike had 28 years of experience with the IRS in a variety of capacities from appraiser to executive level.  While at the IRS he was also a Certified General Appraiser with the State of Minnesota for his last 19 years. During his last 11 years with the IRS, Mike was an IRS territory manager with responsibilities for up to 23 states with an emphasis in valuation and specialist issues nationally.  Mike has written 11 books including How to Work with the IRS: Second Edition, Peaceful Resolutions and his newest book Business Valuations and the IRS (852 pages with 38 examples and over 180 practical pointers). For our Guests and those who belong to the North Star Chapter and do not pay the 2018 CSF, the fee for this meeting is $50.00.
